Finding Magic in the Mayhem: My Morning Grounding Rituals

Mornings set the tone for the whole day, and for me, they’re not just about getting everyone dressed and fed — they’re about finding my footing before the chaos kicks in. Between kids, work, and the never-ending to-do list, I’ve learned that taking a few quiet moments for myself makes all the difference.

Here are the three little rituals that help me feel more grounded, connected, and human before the day takes off.

  1. Step Outside for Fresh Air

Before I touch my phone or even think about breakfast, I step outside. Most mornings, I’ll stand barefoot in the grass, feeling the cool earth between my toes while the world is still soft and quiet. It’s such a small act, but it reminds me that I’m part of something bigger — that there’s calm hiding underneath all the noise.

If going outside isn’t in the cards (because, you know… weather and stuff), even cracking open a window and letting in a breath of fresh air can shift everything. Take one deep, intentional breath. Let it move through you and wake you up from the inside out.

  1. Make Coffee with Intention

My morning coffee isn’t just caffeine it’s a little spell for strength and sanity. Slow down and make it with love, taking a moment to breathe in the smell of the beans and feel gratitude for a new day. While I stir, I like to say a little blessing over my cup:

“Bean and brew, dark and deep,

Wake my spirit from its sleep.

With each sip I claim my day,

I am strong, I find my way.”

It’s such a tiny thing, but it grounds me — and honestly, the rhyme makes it feel extra magical. You can use a prayer, mantra, or affirmation that feels right to you something that roots you in the present moment and fills your cup in more ways than one.

  1. Pull a Daily Tarot Card, or Something Like It.

After coffee, I sit with my tarot deck and ask the same question every morning:

“What should I focus my energy on today?”

It’s not about predicting the future—it’s about perspective. The cards helps me focus and tune into what I need most that day: patience, courage, rest, or joy. Sometimes the message is loud and clear; other days no so much.

Even if tarot isn’t your thing, try any mindful moment that invites reflection. Try journaling, or reading a daily Bible verse. It’s not about how you do it; it’s about pausing long enough to listen.

These tiny rituals might not stop the chaos but they help me carry a little more calm into it and my way of setting the tone for the day ahead. When I begin with intention, everything else flows with a little more grace — and that’s where the real magic in the mayhem lives.
